What Is Sleeve Gastrectomy?

The sleeve gastrectomy surgery is designed to reduce your stomach by about 80-90 %. The stomach stapling operation will be performed under general anesthesia and with the help of the laparoscopic keyhole surgical method by your specialist surgeon in Turkey. This is a minimally invasive gastric surgery technique, in which the abdominal wall is opened only with a few incisions. Afterwards you will not only feel less hungry, also your stomach will be filled much faster, so that your weight reduction is positively supported.

In comparison: An ordinary stomach holds 2-3 liters. Because of the lower capacity of the tubular stomach, the patient not only eats less, due to the rapid elongation of the stomach wall, he feels prematurely saturated, too. But, the general aim of the gastric reduction is the removal of the large stomach of engraving, in which the gastrointestinal hormones, the so-called hunger hormones such as ghrelin, are produced. For this reason, in Turkey the gastric sleeve surgery is often referred to as a “metabolic surgery”, because by means of this technique, the appetite is also restrained.

Techniques

It is performed under general anesthesia. Five trocar technique is used. After identification of pylorus, greater omentum is divided by the aim of ultrasonic scalpel. Before dividing the stomach, anesthesiologist places a bougie to the stomach. Stomach is divided with a stapling device in guidance of the bougie. After controlling for bleeding and leakage, remaining stomach is stitched to the omentum. Divided stomach is taken out of the abdomen.
